Because it contains molasses, brown sugar has a brown appearance. A portion of the molasses that is naturally present in sugar is retained throughout the production of brown sugar. It tastes good and gets a little wet from this. The leftovers from refining sugar are called molasses, and they give brown sugar a delicious, caramel-like flavor with a hint of sourness. Brown sugar can therefore be utilized in a wide variety of culinary applications. Unlike white sugar, which is processed to remove the molasses, this sugar does not. The brown sugar preserves it, giving it a deeper flavor. It can be used to make sauces and to bake cakes or pastries.
